There’s not a lot of places you go in the country and tour a real WWII submarine with battle scars. Fortunately, we have one in our own backyard -The USS Batfish – a legendary WWII submarine located at the Muskogee War Memorial Museum. You can not only tour the sub, but you can even spend the night on it. Keep reading to get all the details.
After serving the country for 26 years, the USS Batfish retired and now sits in Muskogee at the Muskogee War Memorial Park at 3500 Batfish Road.
This historical submarine is a genuine WWII sub that is open for tours. During World War II, the United States lost 52 submarines, luckily the USS Batfish wasn't one of them.
During its tenure in battle, the USS Batfish sank three enemy submarines and eleven other enemy vessels. After retiring, it became an Okie in Muskogee.
One of the coolest experiences it offers is overnight stays all throughout the year. Imagine getting to stay the night in the same quarters that the sailors stayed in during WWII.
Carve some time out of your busy schedule and experience a piece of history right here in our state. Not many people can stay the night in the real submarine, don't miss the chance while the experience is still open to the public.
Visit their website for tour details, including price of admission and hours of operation.
If you enjoy amazing fresh fish, then you need to visit The Fish Hut in Muskogee. You’ll find “always fresh” fish tacos, fish platters, fried fish, fish baskets and more. The fish tacos come served with a spicy jalapeno sauce and are their house specialty. It’s perfectly breaded and served from a little fish hut right off the side of the road. Just walk up to the window and order your meal that is to die for. Read more about this place here.
