The public stargazing events are suitable for all ages. Shuttles take participants up to the observatory between 8:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Because of how dependent stargazing is on the weather, the observatory will alert participants through its website if conditions aren’t right for viewing. There’s usually a backup date planned.

Of course, even if you don’t want to get behind a telescope, the observatory offers beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding Asheville area. The mountains on a misty evening are truly spectacular.
