He'd seen teepees when he visited a Sioux reservation, and he styled his motels after them. Mr. Redford built a total of seven Wigwam Village Inns in the 1930s—in Kentucky, Arizona, California, Alabama and New Orleans. Today, only three remain.

The motel has 15 wigwams to accommodate guests. Built in 1937, it's listed on both the Kentucky and National Historic Registers.
